Gun Maker J Gibbs or T Gibbs?
« on: December 30, 2012, 12:28:43 AM »
Have a longrifle that has been passed down thru the family. On the barrel is a cursive engraving of J Gibbs or T Gibbs. I have found information on an H Gibbs, has anyone heard of a J or T Gibbs? The rifle has the Henry Parker Warranted lock mechanism and was most likely assembled in Ohio in the mid 1800s.

It would be best if you could post some photos of the piece. Lancaster had a Gibbs who made rifles and so did Ohio. It is easy to tell, on a quick look, which it may have been in your case.

Its is J. Gibbs of Lancaster and later in Ohio. Another of his guns is in the Library.

Thank you Hurricane! My ancestors were in Fairfield Co., OH in the time that John Gibbs was there. Thanks for the info!
