Stock finish drying

Basic question, but as I'm about to apply the first layer of finish...

How do you store the stock while it's drying? Do you just lean it against the wall? Hang it? (and from what?)

I run a wire through the first barrel pin/tenon slot and hang it.Sunlight will help with drying so I hang outside in the sun if weather allows.

I've reinstalled one of the buttplate screws with a washer under the head. Then wrapped wire around the screw and hung that from a hook or nail in the ceiling (exposed joist in a basement shop).

This worked perfectly. I 3D printed a small holder so I can just slide the pin in and out the first barrel pin. Thanks!

I always dry the finishes (no matter what they are) in the sun.  The UV is a HUGE help in curing the finish.  To avoid having to manually turn the stock from side to side and edge to edge, I made this out of a cheap 110VAC very low RPM motor.  I just hang the stock in the sun and let the motor slowly turn it around......

I’ll second the sun!
Although I don’t have a contraption like that, I found the heat from the suns rays opens up the pores and grain more (especially walnut).

I have always cured the finish inside the basement. I give them a full day between coats. I want a hard finish.
Works for me. Av. humidity is under 50%.

It either rests against the wall on my bench or against the wall. in the sun on the back deck. Warm sunlight is always the best...unless the cottonwoods are filling the air!

I run a longer wood screw in the buttplate screw hole. A wire hanging from the ceiling attaches to this screw.
For the front I use a pin run through the first pin hole near the muzzle. Another wire hanging from the ceiling attaches to this wire.
I hang all my stocks horizontally.
If weather permits they also get time in the sun.
