A Couple Simple Horns
« on: January 20, 2010, 07:03:40 PM »
These are three simple horns, something that I could see being made at home. The bases were left in their natural shape, they all have Pine bases held in with wooden pegs and with wrought nails for the strap.

1> Is about 9" around the outside curve (ATOC), the base is about 2 1/2". It has 8 panels scraped on the body. There was a thin area in the neck so it is covered with a piece of flattened pewter.

2>Is about 7 1/2" ATOC, the base is about 2 1'4".

3>Is about 7" ATOC, the base is about 2". It has 8 panells scraped on the body and a little bulb to keep the strap.

Really nice work, Tim. They all look really good and the panels are a cool feature. I think you are correct about the simple, homemade factor. I have seven original Southern Appalachian horns and only one of them has a rounded base. Four of them are right about the size of these.

Great stuff.

Tim, very nice job, the only thing missing is the grunge and grime, they're looking too pretty.  ;D
That, and the top one isn't in my bag, ;)

Never met a paneled horn I did not like.  Great job Tim!

There is a lot of work in those simple horns.  Nice job.
