Design transfer tip for pistol grips.

One of the problems with wire inlay on pistol grips is that you want the design on each side of the pistol to be identical mirror images. The easiest way I found was to finish inlaying one side and use tape to transfer the image.

1. Cover the wire inlay with tape and trace the design with a magic marker.


2. Peal off the tape and stick it onto a piece of wax paper. Turn the wax paper around and stick another piece of tap over the old tape. Trace the pattern onto the new tape. Peal it off and stick it on the pistol. You now have an identical mirror image on the pistol. Cut the inlay channel through the tape.

That's a great Idea Rolfkt. My problem is I can never manage to make the contours of one side match the other perfectly so that when you lay over the tape it wouldn't be symmetrical due to the inconsistency of shape. It looks to me like you've got that part of it right on. Are you sure your not Related to Dave Rase?

No Dave, I am not related to David Rase, but thanks for the complement. 
When eye balling for symmetry, its easy to be fooled by the flow of the grain. What looks symmetrical isn't allways symmetrical. Try judging the shape by touch (using your fingers) with your eyes closed. I know this sounds weird, but it is a trick I was taught by a master furniture maker.
