Describing one I have handled>>   Late half stock brass mtd deep crescent butt plate with top part abt 3 inches long. Narrow butt  Original Ashmore percussion - shallow beaver tail cheek piece. Small 2 1/4 inch fully inletted sideplate in brass.  Low sights brass frt sight 1 barrel pin (missing) pewter poured rod inlet.  no pipe/pipes.  Barrel Oct abt 27 in and around 30 32 caliber.  Name block stamped on top flat J YOUNG.  About 1/8 in high. Double setts brass trikker guard  Will try to get photos posted next week.  Any info on this maker and anyone wish to est a value. ???  Conditon good - The bore not known. Normal dings and patina...

The "J. Young" name covers several gunsmiths, so we need to see pictures of your rifle to determine which gunsmith it was. There was a "J. Young" in Ohio who made percussion half-stocked rifles, but without pictures, we don't know where your gun was most likley made. When you get them posted, you will get responses on it. I have three gunsmiths named "J. Young" here in Illinois, all during the period this rifle probably dates from. Sorting this one out might not be easy.
