I have a rifle that I built 7 or 8 years ago that has way too much wood left on the fore end. Didn't bother me then, but it does now, so the rifle just sits in the corner. It was finished with LM Lancaster Brown stain, two coats of Permalyn sealer then three coats of the finish. How much trouble will I cause for myself by thinning down the forestock and trying to match the rest of the stock. I suspect that no matter what, I will always be able to see it myself, but if I can come fairly close it may be acceptable. I will probably just refinish from stem to stern, but the concern still remains on blending in areas of unfinished wood with the previously stained areas. Anyone ever have experience with this before?
