going on display there for the first time will be a pair of naval pistols made in france in the 1720s.they had belonged to george morgan and iassac craig, two officers who served at fort pitt during the revoultionary war.
also a 6pound cannon called   "the ambusher" it was made in 1758. while in pittsburgh in 1825 the marquis de lafayette identifed it as the one used at yorktown.
theres also a colonail fair at point state park on the 17&18th of april.there,s a free shuttle between the heinz history center where there is an excellent F&I display with many fine original longrifles
but wait there,s more. gen butlers house will be open when i talked to the curator of butler historical soicety a few weeks ago i asked if there was any longrifles and they,re all at gen butlers house.these rifles have never been documented and she doesn,t know who the makers are. these rifles were donated by folks from the area.the house is on rt.19 appox 40miles north of pittsburgh

projeeper, do you know how long the display at the Heinz center will be available?  I will be in vicinity in July and would love to see it.  Also, will the Butler house be open then too?

That's great news. When I was there last, the staff at the Ft. were quite worried about the museum closing. A lot of the maintainence had not been done and it was starting to get run down around the point. Ft Pitt is one of my most favorite places to visit. I sent several letters, donated money, and bought several of their fundrasing items to avoid closure of it. In many ways it's sad that they are owned by the state, instead of federal or better yet private hands.

the F&I exhibet is perminet, the blockhouse and museum is in private hands now with endowments from Heinz and some other sources so it will be open for all to enjoy for many years to come. the muesem announced yesterday that it has just aquired an orginal native american powder horn that will be on display.
somebody with knowlege of orginal guns should check the butler house/old stone house museum because when i talked to the curator she has no idea of who the makers of the rifles that are there!as far as she knows no one has documented them!
