Getting the lead out

       Seeking a good source for pewter to make ornate muzzle cap, other than antique shops.

Track has it in their catalog...1 lb. bars I believe.

Lenox lead free solid wire solder is the same as lead free pewter. You can get it at Lowes or Home Depot, etc.

I have used the lead free solder for caps and it works OK.

R. E. Davis Co. sells lead-free pewter in pellet form, 1/4 lb and 1/2 lb bags.  http://www.redaviscompany.com/0301.html   I just noticed Davis lists it as "pewter".  Given the quotation marks, now I'm wondering if it really is pewter.

If you're not in a hurry, old pewter mugs, plates, etc. can be found at garage sales and flea markets.
