Appreciated your comments about it fighting you as I have one I ahve been working on like that.  Put it up a while and come back to it as some things don't look so bad after a short layoff.  Yours looks very good.  Appreciate the general lines of the gun.   Small variations are those of a gun signed RF.

Roger, what tool did you use to mark the muzzle?  I want to do this.

I happen to have a punch that stamps a 0 so that together with a pointed center punch are tbe only items needed..   I should really get a punch that punches a small star that would be neat on a muzzle.  I have also used the circle and dot on my smoothy which has a heavy barrel in 28 gauge so had enough barrel wall to do it carefully. 

Put barrel in padded vise, eyeball 12 O'clock position, same at 6 O'clock 3 & 9 O'clock, and punch carefully as you go around.  A point punch evenly between the O marks evens out the job.    Or if careful a point punch centered in center of each O is another idea.   

I like to do this because the muzzle is the part of the gal that you look at so often while loading and shooting the beastie....   And is is easy to do.

Roger, really like all your posts. As for the gun, looks good to me. pretty much like the one I finished a year ago, got my parts from Dennis allso. Looks like a late ketland lock on that gun? That is what I put on mine. Really would like to hear what you think of the lock. On my gun, after shooting it a bit, my first thoughts were what a piece of $#@* this lock is, really ate up the 5/8" flints, could get maybe 16 shots from a flint, but went boom every time. Just for the heck of it I tried a used 3/4 by 7/8" flint, got around 20 shots from it. If I put a new 3/4 by 7/8" flint in I will get around 30 shots. I have grown to really like this lock. chuck

Yes, Late Ketland it is...  The long hammer throw takes a while to get used to Looks as if she is on full draw when she is still on half draw. Forgeting that can result in a tumbler replacement if you snap the sett trikkers then   Your flint size experience is good to know.  I'll start with a larger flint and try to avoid the flint smashing straight against that frizzen,.

Cold brown rubbed back between on parts except the lock.  Left that go more so she looks a bit 'old' (and maybe odd)

Roger, that looks like a pretty neat rifle.  I'm curious about the butt plate, since you are asking for critique.  I know nothing about southern rifles, but I know what I like, and I like butt plates that are filed thin.  Yours looks a little thick to my eye, though the pitch is great, as well as the comb.
I don't have a better sparking and reliable lock than my Chambers' Late Ketland.  Good choice.  Thanks for posting your rifle.

Neat rifle!  I picked up a set of those same castings at the Martin's Station event last month, from one of the vendors there.  I have a very nice stick of wood that will only make a half-stock, so am sorta planning my squirrel rifle around that thought.

Roger,  Looks nice!!   Is that a Rice or Colerain barrel?   Watch those punch marks, they will dull your patch knife.

The triggers look like Davis to me, they are my favorite. Nice rifle Roger, I built one during the winter also, but I'm waiting until after Friendship to post pics.

"Pretty neat" coming from a guy that built that Kuntz in the manner that you did   "pretty neat" is a darn good compliment.  I  won't mention rear sights

The butt plate was a fair amount thicker than she ended up.  I really should have taken still more off; but $#*! I won't tell if you don't
