Banded Horn Two of The Three
« on: June 07, 2010, 09:14:51 PM »
This one is about 11" around the outside curve. The Walnut base is about 2 1/4", it is held in with 4 steel pins.  The color on the horn itself is AF, followed by light brown leather dye, quickly wiped off and then brown shoe polish, all while the horn was still hot/warm. The bands were put in a mixture of dyes/stains, heated and left to cool over night. Reheated and pulled down on the horn so they fits tight. To make sure they stay put I used two steel pins in each. Lastly the entire horn was coated with brown shoe polish and buffed with a brush.
This one is my take on antother one of the horns from the article in the Jan issue of The Horn Book The third
is done but no pics yet.
As always observations, + or - are welcome.

 Tim C.

Tim,

Great work as always, but it seems to be screaming for another band.

I thought the same thing Mark but the example I was using as a reference only had four so that's were it ended.

 Thanks, Tim C.

Tim, I love the color you achieved and I'm not concerned that adding another band would make a difference to the overall look.  Especially after adding a strap to the horn, it wouldn't be noticed anyway.
Great job again Tim.

I assume you will be at Dixons this year?
