While doing some research on the blog, I came across Greg Hudson's bag with the great design on the flap.

I was wondering how this is accomplished.  I am taking everyone's advice and really researching before making my next bag from the proper materials in the best way possible.  Thanks for the help.

RoaringBull,

Greg just tooled the design.   I don't know exactly what tool he used, but I would use a swivel knife with a slightly rounded edge.  The layout and execution as neatly as he did it, takes some practice.  Of course, that is a bit of an understatement.

Oh, by the way, the circles are stamped, most likely.
