Penna. Chunk Gun Shoot....July 10
« on: July 02, 2010, 05:10:39 PM »
I don't think this was ever posted on the forum, and is kind of late to do it.   The Don Singer Penna. Chunk Gun Shoot will
be held on his "Medhia" game farm, July 10, 2010.    Practice will start about 8 or 8:30, with the shoot starting about 10.
If you never shot in one of these matches, here's a good chance to do it.   Almost all the money is turned back into prizes.
plus, Don roasts a pig and we have a great feast right after the shoot.   Lots of loading benches and plenty of room on the line to shoot.    For those of you interested in this type of shoot and how it operates, this is a nice one to come to.
The match is held just outside the town of East Waterford.   If you look at a Pa. map, follow Rt. 322 north from Harrisburg
toward State College.  About 35 miles north of Harrisburg you will see Rt. 75 goes SW at Port Royal,  East Waterford is
about 20 west on Rt. 75.    When you get in town, watch for signs.    The cost of shooting the match is $25, which includes
the feast.   If you have questions about it, you can call me (easier to get than Don Singer)....call me  717-463-4041

It's the olde tyme string measure (traditional) 60 yd 10 one shot targets using the x cards and your own spotters (on the targets) Ol man Singer pays down several places for shortest total string measure and best spider.  Bring your own mat and chunk.  (Several chunks are provided if you get forgetfull and leave yours at home)

Cash and Merchandise.  Bring a prize along to donate if you have a mind to do so.

Great competition.    But please do the sun dance the night before.... ::) ;D

BTW Camping okay on site.

P.S You will be required to hit Don, Don and John up about running another such shoot in fall (annually)!!!     We 'ain't' getting any younger!

Chunk in this context is a 'chunk' of wood (log, RR tie whatever) upon which the folks inflicted with the chunk shootin auge place their prized rifle and lie prone behind nestled in a nest or grass or pad and do their darnest to place 10 shots in a row in the same hole which in turn is the X on a target card 60 yds or so away from his or her 'chunk'.

The game in question is quite habit forming more so in fact than the neighbor lady (at least nowadays) ::)

Sounds like fun but I have a weddding to go to.   Can't miss this one, it's my daughters.   Although the pig roast sounds better than wedding food.  ;D

Ottawa......oh my, that was cruel.    To clarify, I did miss the Gunmakers Fair.   Then, to top that one off, my other daughter got married during the first week of the June shoot at Friendship.    You're probably wondering what kind of a
dysfunctional family I have...........Don

Checked the weather report for Sat West of Port Royal and happily shows a predicted high of 82 and 40% chance of showers......  The 82 sounds like a life saver and we'll chance that 40% showers forecast..

This heat is more than this ol guy can handle... Makes a yankee run for the A/c for sure.... :D

So if the heat wave has been keeping you from planning to motor in to this log shoot consider the forecast for a break in this darn heat...

Roger,

I get it.  Right now, I'm sitting in front of my computer, with the afternoon off. ( my  60th birthday)
It's 109 outside right now, and NO I don't plan on going out there!!!  Seems like it gets tougher each year.
In His grip,

Dane

The shoot was close to East Waterford on Rt 75, which is kind of  in between Lewistown, Huntington, Harrisburg, and Shippensburg.

Different at an accuracy shoot, LB.  They're there to shoot accurately, not look pretty. Don is a prime example of THAT! :D

If you really want to be in vogue, you will travel to "Farm and Tractor" and buy a pair of "Key" bibs, them's the best....Don
