Hi everyone,
I believe this is my first post to the board, so just wanted say a quick hello to all. I've been working in horn for a little over fifteen years, primarily making powder horns for friends, and in the past few years getting more into the great variety of pressed and turned items available in the period.
More recently, a re-reading of Steve Lalioff's chapter on hunting pouches in the Book of Buckskinning, and the emergence of some interesting early shot pouches like Walace Gusler's early VA example, got me interested in making up some pouches for my horns. Since the list has so many talented leather workers, I'm hoping you all can steer me toward some good reference/how-to materials. I'm particularly keen on learning about period tools and techniques for layout, cutting and stitching, and tend to be more interested in commercially produced goods, as opposed to the homespun type, though I'm open to anything you guys have found useful-- period manuals, modern how-to's, books with photos of original, etc. Any assistance you all can offer is greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Mike Burke
