Double Horn

A couple of weeks ago I was at a flea market and found a set of horns, since they were a pair I decided to make a double horn out of them.  In Madison Grant’s Powder Horns and Their Architecture , pg 91, he shows a banded double horn that is attributed to North Carolina.   
 This is what I came up with,  overall tip to tip is is about 15 ½” at the center band it is about 2 ½”. The tips are Whitetail antler, the rear one  is solid, no hole. They are joined by a wooden plug that is turned hollow so the powder will flow through. The seam where they meet is covered with a horn band, the other two bands have two steel pins in them.
 Kind of a strange look'in critter.

Now just find a person with a fowler/rifle swivel breech and convince him that he needs 2F for the fowler and 3F for the rifle and that you have just the horn for him You might even make a matching priming horn to go with the set!

Tim, nice job on that one (or those). Doubles are very cool, and I have been wanting to make one for some time, but no suitable "pair" has surfaced yet. I have seen a couple of Southern Appalachian originals, and really liked them. The bands are cool too.

I have built a couple of double horns mostly to see if I could do it. The first I didn't like the final shape and the second was just a botch job. Cut it up for parts and pieces. I've decided I'll have to have just the right horns or I won't even try.
I think yours came out good. I'd prefer a little more curve or "U" shape.
