Sad day for gun builders
« on: July 13, 2010, 05:30:24 AM »
I was shocked and saddened upon reading the passing of Dave Dodds on the makers blog. Aside from being my personal favorite gun builder, he was a true gentleman.  He was a good friend to many of us and shared his gun building knowledge and love of Reading guns with the Getz's and all of us.  I recall many conversations about shooting, hunting, history and gun building techniques.  Robert Weil described him as humble and unassuming and his work reflected that.  He would admit that he didn't have the skill level of many professional builders, but his guns had that 'thing'.  He sure knew how the original guns felt and the architectural details to make them the finest shouldering arms I've ever handled.  It's what always kept me coming back to his table at Dixon's. A true loss to all who knew him.  My sincerest condolences to Cathy and the family.
