Marc,
Have you made/fitted the lid yet?  I think it will be easier to bend it appropriately after inletting but before you dig the hole for the patchbox cavity, which you probably already thought out.  This is the only kind of patchbox I've ever tried to make, so I'm wondering if you had more problems than the usual 4 piece getting it to lie flat against the stock.  I kept telling myself it was harder because there is really only one piece that has to fit the shape.

I have already made the lid, but i have not filed it to final shape to fit the hole yet. I am glad that I have not done it yet either. As I bent the  the entire plate to fit the stock it shrunk the hole up some. not a huge deal, but I would rather fit it once. I had a very difficult time fitting the plate to the stock, mainly because it is not as each as bending in one direction the finial is just barely starting to get in the way of the wrist. I found that after I approached the bending like a car fender, using the same techniques a body man would use. Things went along smoother. I just took my time to make it right. The inletting is not going too smoothly right now. The curl is a real pain for working. I don't know if I am installing this in the most efficient way or not.

Marc, this is a question and maybe a suggestion. Are you going to carry the box through the butt plate? The box on my rifle and I believe on the Young rifles were inlet through the butt plate instead of up to the butt plate. I think this is a feature that sets these rifles apart from many others that might have made in the area.

Marc,
I suspect you would have to do several just to know what the "most efficient way" is :) .  Sounds like you have the lid under control .  Try not to bend around a curve at all on the lengthwise axis -- it will kink the metal, and there is no hinge or any joints to help you out.  I think Jacob must have either been very careful in preparing the PB area on the side of the stock or inletted to variable depths (to keep the box flat) and then scraped off the excess wood.  Just thinking out loud and cheering you on -- I didn't think any part of it was easy!
