A while back I was asking about annealing my frizzen before polishing, just so I could file it easier, reshape, etc.

Well, that was a week or more ago.

I just spent the last two days polishing the other parts. So now I am going to work on the frizzen.


But.........


Where did I put it? It is not in my cup of parts, nor is its pivot screw. I am hoping they are together somewhere. $#@*, I hate it when this happens.

Maybe you will see the new 'frizzenless flintlock' this coming Dixon's!  :D

Whatever the result, I can't wait to see everyone. I can't wait to shop, and yap, and run around glassy eyed.

I recently learned to tell myself that "I'm gonna find it any second", and sure enough, I usually find whatever I'm looking for.

It could be that telling myself that "I'm gonna find it" conditions my brain to see the item I'm looking for, instead of looking over that item. Stranger things have happened.  ;)

Tom, it's probably sitting next to my hump-back, stag handled, first production run, Case stockman knife that "vanished" yesterday... might even be with all the keys and socks that seem to disappear so easily :-) Sure hope you find your frizzen. Good luck .. Bill

Hmmmm.  Sounds just too familiar.  After the replacement arrives and you find the other one right where you left it, put them both in zip lock bags along with the screws. That way you'll at least be able to see the bag.  Good luck Tom.  I'm going to start looking for all those socks I have matches for somewhere.

If you have a three year old that is where it went lol. My very best friend Matt has a son that was the worlds worst for carring stuff off...I mean important stuff. Matt was working on his rifle and his son Garret snatched the sideplate up...he hid it in the HVAC vent...it was not seen for three months until his little boy told him where he put it. Around that same time Garret also took Matt's only car key...cost to replace was 125.00, Garret brought the original key out of hiding one month later. I was helping Matt install a new dishwasher and Garret was setting there playing, thus he took the roll of tape we were using and hid it and we never found it lol. Garret would hide anything he liked or found interesting. One night Matt caught Garret in his "stash" of stolen goods under his bed. I kid u not this kid had hid half eaten sandwiches, nice dinner plates, tools and three pairs of his mothers bra's.

This kid is now five and Matt was able to finally break Garret, but if you have any little ones around you never know where stuff might end up. Hope you find that frizzen!!!

Hey, going through the dustbin of my mind, I remembered that I'd done a gunsmithging demo a few weeks ago, and had my lock all apart to polish.

Lo! and Behold! The frizz and screw were in my 'demo' tool box.

I have to say to myself 'duh' under my breath, so my kids don't hear me. I do a pretty good job of humbling myself, so I don't need much outside help. :)

Glad you found it.  Frustrating.  This morning while I was talking to a friend on my cell phone, I was walking around the house looking for my cell phone.

A doctor friend once told me it's not a problem if you forget where you put your car keys........it's a problem only if you forget what they're for!

So, Tom, it's not an issue until you pick up the frizzen and ask what's this? :)
