Great looking Henry. I really like the utilitarian rifles like this one. Seems well executed to me; great inletting and finish. Tell us how it shoots when you fire it up. Rick

Those are great guns and you did a nice clean build.  Ought to have a lot of fun with that one.

Karl,

Well done! This rifle has an understated elegance that I find very appealing.
The finish on the barrel seems more black than brown. Did you boil it when you were done with the rusting? Also, how did you finish the lock? I would like to achieve a similar look on my present build.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Thank you all for the kind comments.

Rick,
I've actually have shot it before I finally finished it.  Had to use it as my back-up gun in several matches when my other flintlock took a spill and cracked at the wrist. It's a little barrel-heavy, but its accurate.

Rich,
It likes your flints!

Satwel,
The barrel is a very dark brown, darker than results I have had in the past.
I used vinegar to neutralize and was still getting rust. I then did multiple vinegar treatments and applied motor oil to the warmed barrel and haven't anymore rust.
The lock I left as is--no browning, bluing, or gray finish.
Just 15 years of waiting-to-get-done patina.

Vinegar is acid not base, so if you were rusting with an acid, vinegar just added to it!  P.S., very nice rifle, Karl.
