L.M. percussion shotgun
« on: July 18, 2010, 05:19:55 AM »
I have double barrel a percussion shotgun, with only a couple simple markings on the barrel. There is a stamp that looks like a key, and a letter M (capitalized) with what looks like and L (capitalized as well) directly above it.

The barrel length is 32 inches, with the bore diameter of 13/16ths inches.

No other markings are on the gun.

Any ideas of origin, or other information you can glean from the pictures? They can be found at:

Thanks

Ken what you have is a Belgium export gun the letter L is for Liege most common proof marks are the letters E.L.G within and oval with a crown on the top.
Grossed keys are the proof marks  of Leyden {Leiden}south Holland, the town or city of Liege used to be part of Holland before it became part of Belgium.
I have restored several percussion shotguns and D/B rifles with this type of barrel ,most were iron and not Damascus, one of the most  common ways to tell this type of Belgium barrels is that on most the ribs are brazed and not soldered.
Hope this has been of help

This does help, and do you have any further information on the maker?

Thanks,
