Chamber's York progress report

Since the last post I have removed wood from the upper and lower forestock, including about 1/16" along the barrel. I took about 1/8" wood of the side plate moulding and reinlet the side plate. I redrew the the rear pipe, beavertails, tang, and sideplate-lock carvings. I tried to draw curves that matched the various gouges I have.



I started carving by stabbing in my drawing.



and lowering the background.

I smoothed by scraping and sanding with cardboard nail files.
Mostly scraping with these.



The bottom is a hardened steel masonry nail I sharpened.







I have started drawing for the butt carving using RCA vol2 #94 as a guide.







I have spent well over 80hrs so far and am having a great time doing it.  I am pretty happy so far with my carving results.  I just don't want to screw it up now.

Thanks for everones previous suggestions and advice.  Let me know what you think at this point as I continue.

Now just add a little modeling to that carving, and you're good to go.  Going to be a beauty.  looks like great wood to carve.
