Kinda sorta finnished

I still have a few things to do on it. However it was done enough to take to the cabin and shoot. The frizzen needs work and I'm going to rivet the toe and butte plate togather. I made this one in Ian and Jim's class at the Log Cabin Shop.

Have fun and shoot the h--l out of it.  I am going out today with a gun that is far from finished at that level to shoot.  Takes a little use to get the kinks out of them sometimes.  waht are the specs on your rifle?

Its beautiful! Nice lines from toe to nose cap......that barrel must be at least 6 ft long!!.......... but how did you let a mistake like putting the lock on the wrong side escape you???  Were Ian and Jim not watching?

I agree, real pretty lines. Is that a B-weight barrel or an A? Nice slim look to it.

Nice looking rifle. I like that "taller" hole, now you need some bear grease/beeswax in it.

Beautiful gun. What lock did you use? Is the iron mounts cast or forged?

The barrel is an A weight 44" Rice in .40 caliber. I took a Chambers gunmakers lock and added some parts I made to get what I wanted. And its on the right side for Ian but Jim had problems with it. Jim kept saying learn to shoot it right. ;D
I forged all the hardware from wrought iron and made the triggers from 1018 and case hardened them.
Dennis I need something other than b'ar grease in the taller hole. I tried it and shot lousy groups using it. I need to find some lube that works before squirrel season gets here though.

Now that is one graceful looking sweetheart.  I suspect some squirrels will hate it. (the dead ones anyway)   I also like the side you picked for the lock, me being a lefty!

I'll take some more photo's when I get it back togather. I need to recase the frizzen. I used kasenit to harden it but I want to do a deeper case with charcoal. Maybe next week I'll have them up. It will also be on my table at the CLA.

Do like I do, mix bear grease and beeswax to a fairly heavy mix that will stay in the hole (for looks only). Then use Lehigh Valley spray for patches!

Great rifle...fabulous workmanship!  I love the lock, and THEIR PANELS.   Most mountain rifles I see have fat panels, and though they may be HC I prefer the narrow ones like yours.

Melt some chapstick into the "taller" hole.  It makes very nice patch lube, but you need to saturate that patch - not just wipe it on.  I use Lube 103 and apparently, it'[s just chapstick.
