Jerry Nobles books

Before I get really involved in my first build and mess up a beautiful stock, can someone give me some ideas on how to view Jerrys books without dropping $160.00 on all four volumes?I'd like to breeze through them and make sure I haven't missed anything in the research I have been doing.I feel very good about my decisions on furniture and so forth but on the other hand I guess I'm sort of second guessing myself :-\.Thanks .Chris

Have you asked your local library if they can get copies for you to read??  They usually can.

I am amazed at the generosity of the people on this site.  A guy at work has lots of book and I get to see them once and a while.  When I do I have to give him my first born and two quarts of blood.  Roger is going to send a book through the mail on lone.  YOU PEOPLE ARE TRULY GREAT.

I bought them all. Books are the only way you're going to learn this stuff, $160 is nothing for good resource material.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Chris,
Be sure to ask your local library about the InterLibrary Loan program.  That's probably what Dr. Tim is referring to.  It's usually free.  I use it a lot to "test drive" books I may be interested in buying.  Good luck.

Not anymore, at least not in our county. The used to charge a token fee i.e. $0.75 to $1.50 now its cheaper to buy the book than to pay the handling fee along with the actual shipping charges. It was going to cost me around $20 for the last book I wanted to review. Charges went up drastically to help pay for the cost of keeping the library going. Times are tight!

I agree with Mike, jerry's books are more than worth the price.  I would just invest in one at a time, and maybe start with number two(more pic's), and go from there.  They are a continuing resource for ideas.

I highly doubt you'll be able to get Jerry's books from ILL because they are privately published by him in his garage.  They are great references.  Besides, talking to him is worth the price of his books.  Call him up.  Order #1&2 and go from there.
