CLA show - ALR get together - Dinner?
« on: August 05, 2010, 12:19:21 AM »
It's been nice to get together with other ALR members the past couple of years and put faces with names. Thought we might do it again.

Same as last year, let's meet in the Food Court, on the ground floor of the convention center, at the base of the escalators.  Last year we met at 3:00pm on Friday (Aug. 20, this year).   Bring stuff to look at!

UPDATE: The consensus is we should meet at 2:00pm to allow plenty of time to get back upstairs for the live auction.  So, 2:00pm it is!

Now for a new a new question....  Is there any interest in having an ALR group dinner on Friday evening?  Let me know if interested and how many and I'll check with some restaurants.  (I wish we had a Fogelsville Inn in Lexington.)

Looks like I'm gonna be able to get away to go to this show. I would certainly like a chance to meet some people and do some listening.

Meeting at 3:00 sounds good to me.  It's always good to see faces and talk.  There just never seems to be enough time to talk to everyone but it does give you the chance to see a face and run them down later.
I'll bring the Soddy Girl and some money for Don's raffle tickets.

I agree Ken.  That's what made me think about organizing dinner.

Nutz!  Just when ya think ya got it all figured out!  Last year our get together lasted maybe an hour.  So what do y'all think?  Move it to 2:00pm or leave it at 3:00pm?

Either 2:00 or 3:00, Chapman and I will be there.  Steve has to work the next morning, so we'll have to pass on dinner that night.  Probably leave right after the auction to get home in time.  Looking forward to seeing all you fellows.

Wow, fogot about the time of the auction.   It might be wise to move it up to 2 pm, I don't see that it should create problems in anyone's schedule..........Don

I plan on attending unless something knocks me out of it. 2:00PM is fine. If my wife comes with me (probably won't) I will have to skip the dinner Friday night.

Dennis,

Your wife is certainly welcome to join us....  but on second thought, I'm not sure I would subject my wife to this bunch either!

Just kidding, all wives, significant others, etc. are welcome in my book.

Ron,
I thought she would be, but after being cooped up in a motel room all day I am sure she will want to go somewhere Friday afternoon. I may drive out by myself since she isn't crazy about driving for 9 hrs, has no interest in attending the show and is not crazy about sitting in the motel most of the day!

The guy that had planned to go with me canceled out due to surgery.

Give your wives $100.00, send them to the local mall and they will want you to go every year. Na, on second thought, just send her to the mall and save the $100.00 for gun parts. ;D

We are planning to attend.  I have made the suggestion to my Wife to staet her own profile and become a new member.  I've caught her on the forum. I don't know about Dinner.  We are planning to make this a one day trip. Lexington is only about six hrs from here.

I will go with the general consensus on the time.  Looking forward to meeting those I missed at Dixon's and seeing the one's I did meet.   This can be even more addicting than I ever imagined.

Looks like the consensus is we should meet at 2:00pm to allow plenty of time to get back upstairs for the live auction.  So, 2:00pm it is!  Friday, Aug 20, in the Food Court.  Bring your lastest piece or work in progress.

About the ALR group dinner on Friday evening.  If you would like to join us, please let me know asap, as I will need to make the arrangements.

Rich, Spend the night and go home Saturday afternoon......It is too much to see......much more than at Dixon's in sheer quantity alone.

Its a six hour drive from here. I leave early on Friday morining. ARR Lexington around noon, spend the afternoon at the event. Dinner that night and then Saturday at the event.... Maybe leave for home or hang around if someting is doing.....and leave later in the evening........ getting old so I will probably leave by 5 or 6 pm Saturday.

So much to see and so many people to listen to................

Jerry's comment made me think that an ALR member's table number might help to  keep from missing someone.  Or at least knowing the room or part of a room might help to find a member.  I am still confused at times by ALR nick names when I'm at shows like this.

Jerry,
Welcome to ALR!  Great to have you here.

Pletch,
That is a good idea!  Speaking of the confusing nicknames, something else I do at the CLA show, on my name tag I write my real name and below that I write "KyFlinter on ALR.org".
