Was interested in article on my friend Scotty Shea's fine Lehigh up there on the blog. That ain't no Shimmel, not from our Pennsylvania definition. That is much more than a Shimmel, or barn gun, if you ask me.
This is a nice, neat example of a full-blown Lehigh in what I would suggest might be Rupp style. I would like to hear from the maker, as to my definitions.
A Shimmel, according to our terms, would not have decorative carving, nor would it have a patch box. Likely wouldn't even have a butt plate. My bet is that Scotty would build you a nice Shimmel for less cash. Wayne
