I have been hanging out here for several months and thought i would check in.
I have been biten by the bug. I have sevearl books and a Chambers York "kit" in .40 cal with a Rice "A" bbl. Come Monday I will be ordering the new .50 cal Rice "A" bbl in a York "kit" from Barbie.

As soon as I get my chisels all sharp and a couple of support fixtures made for the rifle while in the vise, I will try my hand at putting this kit together.
I will be needing all the help I can get from you folks.

I have read all 150 pages of posts on this forum. WOW! There is a wealth of knowledge here
and i sure would lke to tap into it.
Starting late in life but what the hey. you only get to go around once.

Howdy Bill: welcome and good luck on your late start, but your in the right game anyway. Most muzzleloading people are the best you will find and this bunch is a good one to hang around with.    Best wishes          Gary

Bill,
Welcome, I also am fairly new here. I also agree it is amazing the knowledge and experience that is on this Forum. I have learned a lot about building Longrifles from these guys. I don't know if you are new to muzzle loading also but if you ever get the chance attend Dixon's Gun Making Fair. That will really hook you. Enjoy and ask lots of questions, I will learn from them also. I know there is at least one Rocket Scientist and I'm pretty sure a couple of Brain Surgeons they are great guys and are always helpful. Good Luck,

Bob

Welcome to the ALR.  Since I retired, I have spent a bunch of time looking at other sites, and the ALR is the best one out there in my opinion.  Bunch of knowledge and folks willing to share.  Good luck with your projects.  Just remember that our hearts and desires are the still the same and only our eyes have changed since we have gotten older.  Just takes a bit longer to do the job now.

Bill............I think you are somewhat confused.....unless I am mistaken, the "A" weight barrel is not usually done in 50 cal.,
also, I think the standard York kit was developed around a "B" weight barrel.............Don

Don,
Being the rookie i probably am confused. I was referring to the new Rice bbl in this thread:
http://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=10294.0

Also I have a chambers York "kit" with a .40 cal. "A" weight Rice barrel.

Thanks for the warm welcome folks.
