Don King Barn Gun
« on: August 16, 2010, 07:53:08 AM »
Perhaps his most ornate.
Someone wanted more details and I finally got a chance when the owner brought it to our Guild Fair.
We actually had 18 of Don's guns including this rifle 6 Flint Hawkens, 7 long rifles and a swivel breech under hammer pistol.
Anyway for the inquiring minds out there here are a few more shots of a rifle with a lot of very high quality engraving.

The previous owner had allowed the rifle to get pretty grungy and the current owner had not cleaned it up enough to suit Don so it got it down and polished it some.

The subject line was the owners recommendation BTW.

What a gorgeous gun!
I don’t quite understand the forth picture down (copied below). It looks like a second frizzen mounted upside down.
I specially love the inclusion of the patch box and the wire inlay, just beautiful.

thus the one now under the cock , will become the one thats upside down .

kind of like tomorrow  makes today , yesterday,,,, type of thing  LOL

1/2 cock the lock, push the button on the tang and rotate the barrels.
This rifle is based on an original, though the makers name escapes me at the moment.

Yeah! A King rifle is just that: the King, as good as anyone could ever want. The Davis Gun Museum in Claremore, Oklahoma has a super fine Don King, Bedford County rifle made at least 35 years ago, or more. Everytime I stop in to see the collection I look at that rifle and spend some time drooling over it. There are a lot of other guns, mainly antiques, but the King Bedford is worth a stop all by itself.

Don has a swivel breech barreled action he traded into and we are trying to get him to make a gun of it.
We are both planning to make brass paneled forend swivels. Got the brass just got to make the die to form them.
He really enjoyed the 3 days at the Guild fair.
