Front sight dovetail
« on: August 21, 2010, 03:25:06 PM »
The barrel of my first build has a sight dovetail already cut,  it's a half inch wide.  I can only find 3/8 dovetail sights.  Any suggestions?

Front sights are easy to make. Make a base that fits from a piece of brass sheet metal and silver solder on a blade.

Not to difficult of project to make. Get yourself a block of steel or brass and after about 6 basic cuts with a hacksaw, file to finish shape.

Or just find a piece of 1/16"thick brass of steel, fold into an inverted T, solder, and file away everything that doesn't look like a sight.  ;)

God bless

There is a cast front sight with an oversize base for just such an application.  I got mine from TOW to keep on hand.  But as you can see it isn't hard to make them.
