Hello, I'm New Here
« on: October 01, 2010, 10:22:18 PM »
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum but I'm not new to the craft. Nestled in a little community in Bedford, Pa. I've been building these rifles for over 30 years and worked under the famed Wayne Watson. Just thought I'd throw a few quick pics up and get your feedback. Thanks and I'm glad to be here.

G-Rum -- I like the "stippling" (or whatever it's called in rifle-building terms) in the carving on the first rifle shown. Also love the color (coffee?) on the rifle shown in the framed image. And the detail on the tomahawk is awesome. Envy is supposed to be a bad thing, but, hey, "green" is one of today's PC catch-words, right? Nice work! -- paulallen, tucson az

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. Stippling sounds good to me, it's a technique I picked up from Larry Gardner. Not really authentic to the period but it sure makes the carving pop. The stain is another little trick I picked up from Larry, it's a combination of Laurel Mountain stains, Cherry, Maple, and Walnut. The hawk was built to match the first rifle, however the gun is in Philly and the hawk is in Tyrone, LOL.

All beautiful work!!  I like the whole kit. And the knife is a very nice design and workmanship as well.  I look forward to seeing more of your work and learning from your experience.
