Roger Sells rifle on the blog
« on: October 18, 2010, 02:11:23 PM »
Roger Sells has a neat southern rifle on the blog.  A rough calculation makes me think the barrel is 52-54" long.

One long barrel! Absolutely nothing NOT to like about this gun. I hope we'll learn more.

Roger makes a very fine Tennnessee rifle.  He based that one pretty closely on an original east Tennessee rifle with a lot of Bean and Beals characteristics that looks to be from around the 1830s - if you do a search for "Roger Sells" on the Blog Spot and scroll down you can see some photos of the original rifle as well.  Hopefully Roger will tell us some more on the details - it is a wonderful piece - got to handle  it at the Norris show.

This rifle is one I made for myself and let someone talk me out of it.  It has a Colerain A weight 32 cal. 44 inch barrel on it.  It is the only .32 cal. barrel I have ever seen made by them.  We had an all day shoot last Friday, and the rifle and owner came over for the day.  Some of the guys started shooting at walnuts on a fence rail at 50 yards for money.  They shot off a rest, and the little .32 never failed to bust the walnuts shot at that afternoon.  I should have stuck the rifle in the back closet for me to use.  The lock is a Chamber's late Ketland that has been modfied by Sam Everly (very quick).  Triggers are modified Davis #4.  The hardware and tang extension are hand made. I spend a lot of effort trying to make these rifles look long, thin, and graceful.   Jan does a great job on the photographs.

Roger,  I would say your effort paid off, because that rifle certainly looks long, thin, and graceful to my eyes.

Roger,
Great looking rifle.  Real slender and sleek looking!  Nice job as always.

Roger, the rifle is a beauty!  Colerain must have made some .32 cal. barrels because I bought one from Vernon Davis at the CLA Show and later traded off all the parts.  Woodsrunner's (Rich Pouncey) squirrel rifle has a Colerain barrel on it too (I believe).
