My latest build

Here's my latest build that I did for a good friend and master hornsmith Steve Shroyer. I dedicated this peice to his wife and very good friend to me, Susan, who was killed in an automobile accident 2 years ago.
The stock pattern is of Joseph Mills Bedford County, Pa., with a little Border, some Stoudnour, and my own personal touch interjected. Thank God I'm a better smith than a photographer but here are some pics for your enjoyment.

I got another one of these buggers to do for a customer, this time being a copy of an originol Dan Border from Bedford Twp, Bedford County, Pa. Already got the stock band sawed and the barrel about laid in.

Beautiful rifle, and a wonderful Memorial to a lost spouse.  Aside from the Scholarship I started for my lost love, I think my next rifle will be named for her in her honor.

The geometry of the rifle looks really good.  But I'd love to see it photographed out of the sunshine which darkens the rifle obscuring the details.  Take some pics in the shade, please, and some close-ups for details.  I'm anxious to see more.

You got it, as soon as I get back over to his house I'll see if I can't get some detail shots. For the time being if you save one of the above shots to your pictures file it will allow you to zoom in and get a better look at the detail. Thanks.

The stippled background is quite striking. I'd always thought stippling was something from the 60's/70's - 1960's/1970's gun making, that is.

Are there any originals with stippled backgrounds around the craving?

It sure drew my eye & I like it.

Daryl, as far as I know, no they didn't use stippling but this was something the customer requested.
There will always be a time when the customer asks us to do something that goes completely against our nature however, the customer gets what the customer wants. I'm working on another Bedford as we speak, a Daniel Border,  which will be 100% historically accurate. Now that's my cup of tea.

OK - tks- I stil kinda like the stippling. Really makes the carving stand out.

Very nice, I have always wanted to try a Bedford being from next door in Huntingdon County.
