Finished this up just recently
« on: December 27, 2010, 03:43:57 AM »
Just finished this rifle up and took her out to make sure it went boom and at least shot halfway decent

First shot was very low, so I filed off the front sight and worked her up. The load is 65 grains of 2ff, 445 roundball with a .010 patch. The barrel was a second and has some ripples in it. They can be felt when cleaning, but not when loading. Shoots pretty good for a cheap barrel...think it only cost 50-60 bucks!

Nice looking rifle. How long is your barrel? Who's lock do you have there? I think its going to work great on the varmints and squirrels.

Nice rifle.  Can you give a close up of the sideplate?  Is it three pieces of brass??  Is this a full stock hawken? What size barrel?  Sorry for so many questions, just really like the rifle.  Great job!

The side plates are horn. I decided to use them for a direct contrast. The barrel is about 42 inches long, it's a 45. The lock is an L&R and the triggers are L&R also.

Gaeckle. good looking rifle.  As the barrel becomes fouled, shots tend to rise. Really clean it between shots and see what you get.

I did a 6 o'clock hold. The very first shot told me that my front sight was too high. After reducing the hieght of the blade, my second shot told me I was on the right track. I ran some patches through the bore and produced the next three shots. The last shot I simply held a bit higher.

I shot it early in the morning and could have shot more, but my hands were getting cold....

Nice looking rifle!  Pretty good shooter for an "El- Cheap- O" brand barrel.  Where do you get a barrel for such a low price?

At the Log Cabin in Lodi, Ohio about 2 years ago....I live close by and have an opportunity to pick up some very affordable items.
