An original SW Virginia "country" horn

Thought ya'll might like a look at this one.I got this in a trade a while back - origin is SW Virginia and probably mid-1800's (?). Overall it is in nice shape with a beautiful natural patina over a variegated color pattern of yellows, reds, and dark greens. It was definitely scraped to finish and shows the marks as well as some chatter. The mouth is octagon shaped and the ovate buttplug appears to be hardwood, not pine, has an iron screw eye for the strap attachment and four small brads to hold the plug in. There are two small cracks in the butt end of the horn but otherwise it is in good to very good condition.
measurements:
buttplug - 3" x 2.5"
length around outside curve - 16.25"
straight across curve from tip to butt - 11"

Great horn, Chuck! That really is a beautiful example of a classic, simple, rural style. The coloring is outstanding as well. I have run into several that are very similar in antique and junk shops.

PS: That looks like something broken off in the neck. Could it be another screw eye?

Might just be my eyes, but is the base plug made of flattened horn?
