Some Recent Work
« on: October 07, 2008, 04:26:10 AM »
Hi Folks,
Acer is always encouraging me to post some of my work( not that it is anything of import' ) but I see what he is getting at ...It keeps our forum alive. He is a great moderator & it may be of interest to a few, I hope...so here is a few links ( I'm too @!*% lazy to post the individual pics so I hope this is ok)
http://mysite.verizon.net/jwfilipski/rogersbg.html
http://mysite.verizon.net/jwfilipski/phillipsundbier.html
on the last one you may have seen the first rifle , I call it the Violin Jaeger...scroll down for the other . I did these pretty much at the same time (except the finish work...as I said "the closer to the finish the longer it takes!" ) I like to call these two my twins...in my shop they had the names of "Sphen & Ollie.... hey I hope somebody watches Ren & Stimpy!
Jim
P.S. Yes got to get a better avitar...one homely dude ... need something sexy like a big grotesque Maybe some kind of tree!

Hi Jim,
Very nice work.  I especially like your carving.  It seems very crisp.  I hope you will consider showing more of your work.  It's fun to see this caliber of work, and it's also motivation for those of us will less experience.

OUTstanding work Jim! That second one is very similar in architechure to the Edward Marshall rifle I am currently working on except for the curved cheekpiece conture. Nice carving layouts!

Hahhaaaa
Haaaa  haaaa
Heeeee hooo argh oh ahhhh heee hoo hahhh.

I think I am going crazy.

At long last Jim posted some of his work! Hoo-ray. I saw some of Jim's work several years ago, and though, ohmy god, I am not worthy. Maybe it was through the link in his profile? I dunno. Regardless, I have much respect for his clean styling and excellent workmanship. I have been on him to post his stuff, because it should be seen. It also raises the bar for us working away in our own little shops.

This is not meant to overshadow Jim's talent at the camera. Great work with both knife and lens.

Jim,
Most of us could hide our "real" craftsmanship with poor quality photography.  Very enjoyable to see the full extent of your talents.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks Folks for the kind words, but there are a lot of better builders, carvers, & engravers out there that have posted to this fine list and a number of them just commented on this topic! but I do appreciate the encouragement.
Again just trying to give back something to this forum for all the things I have learned in the short time I have been a member.

Now to that magical changing avitar: well at least Stimpy has more hair and is definitely younger looking and a tad more handsome then my old one
"Sphen & Ollie" were his European cousins so I think I will keep it for awhile (thanks Acer!) And I love Cats

Well this is as good a posting to jump in on as any!... Beautiful work Jim!  Love that big game rifle, looks hefty but it flows nicely.  The heart on the steel fastener of the eagle inlay is great.  Aquafortis, then what'd you do for a finish?  Wonderful photography.  Thanks for sharing!!

Hey you caught that lil heart! Good eyes boy!  AF all the way; my special mix with the 150 year old forged nails. Since it is a huntin gun used that tung/ 10% poly blend I told you about   Tough as nails but flexible as leather. Wouldn't make a beatin gun without it. But still using the seedlac sealed under the soft glow of oil varnishes  for the those special ones the clients just want to oggle!
Hey these is my last contract pieces...free agent now ! (Thanks Tom) Hope folks will want what I want to build! I got some exciting ideas and a lot of wood & metal in my shop set aside for "Me"  Ugly grotesques are in the future.... Just love those wacky Europeans of the 17th & 18th C!
Miss your post Eric

John I spend many hours perusing those German & European Auction sites for inspiration  Not for duplication but to enliven the mind and get it thinking. I post what I have done not to show but more to add to a minds memory banks. Take ideas and make them your own is what I say. All of you are most welcome ( as I have bits and pieces of your works in my memory banks) We all benefit from each other as we are all one of a kind My Friend
