I just traded for this 54cal rifle looks like a hawken style it was made around 1850 or before the 86 year old women says. which was her dads. The brass was total black. The barrel is 8 lands left hand twist which is mated to a brass receiver which is a cap lock.It has no marking except 54 on barrel. He gave me this funnel that is about 3ft long that goes down inside the barrel and sits in a hole that is drilled in the receiver looks like 3/8 are little larger.Who every build did a $#*! of good job every thing is so close you can not see any seams unless you got on cheaters.I am at the public library burned up by pc .The guy i got it of did not want it because he did not want to carry that long ass funnel around at hunting season and told me he was going to hang it on his wall it was not worth a damm so i traded him out of it very speedily also most feel guilty think i got 100 in it.
