E Loomis long rifle
« on: February 02, 2011, 04:27:15 PM »
Several years ago I purchased a very nice Long rifle with stock made of beautiful Tiger grain Maple.  This rifle has hex barrel back at breach and then round.  Back on top of hex area the  name E Loomis stamped.  I cannot find any other markings or numbers. Rifle has several areas of Silver inlay in stock and barrel.
I believe this is about 40 Cal.  Rifle was purchased in Tenn.
I would appreciate any information on Mfg. or Gun Smith that made this brand.

Hello and welcome to ALR.  Is this rifle an antique or made in the modern era?  I'm guessing the rear section of the barrel is actually octagonal (8 sided) not hexagonal (6 sided).  Have you removed the barrel to check for markings on the bottom flats?  If you will post some pictures, some of the members may be able to assist you with more information.
