  Anyone have experience with a Getz barrel?  I have a 42" .50cal Getz barrel on one of my rifles and using .490 ball w/.018 patch it is extremely tight going down the barrel.  I have herd that with a Getz .50 you need to use a .480 ball instead of the .490. 

Anyone verify the above info of using a .480 ball?

I have a 25yr-old Getz bbl in 50cal on one of my  earlier flint  rifles. It shoots well with .495 rb  and  .018 greased patch. It seems a tight load, but  not   "hard" by any means. What lube are you using?

I have a relatively new Getz barrel same experience as Gene. .490 and.495 with .018 patch load fine.

Increase your lube, and maybe change your patch material, type , not thickness.  Shoot the barrel looser, 500, to a 1,000 rounds should do it.  There's probably a hundred guys on the site that will take it off your hands, they might even trade you up to a GM barrel  ;D :P :D

Sunshine....barrels are being made with the same reamers, and, if it was undersize, you couldn't get the rifling head thru
it.     I never used a .480 ball.  Always found a .490 to load rather easy, and used it for hunting.   I have a 50 cal. chunk
gun and always shot a .495 in it..........Don

I am lucky enough to have Getz barrelssss.  My main shooter being a .45 handles a .454 ball .018 - .020 patch and spit quite nicely.  And believe it or not this barrel has over (well 0ver) 50,000 rds thru it since 89 (1989)

She also handles .020 teflon without squealing too much ;D ::)

geneC:  I am using mink oil for the patch lube and .018 pillow ticking strips that I lube and then cut flush with the barrel.

Mine is snug with a .490 ball, .018 patch and mink oil, but not difficult to load. For plinking around my course, I use spit and a .015 patch.  The thinner patch is a little easier on my ramrod and it doesn't make any difference in my offhand shooting.

One way to find out.......get some .048's and try 'em.

If the crown has sharp corners you will have difficulty loading combinations that are easy to load, with a nice smoothly radiused or rounded crown.

We've loaded .508" balls in a barrel with the same dimensions as a Getz .50 barrel, using a .019" ticking patch, without damage to the patch and without difficulty.

 Normal trail walk or hunting loading is a .495" ball of pure lead, and a .0205 to .0225 denim patch - mink oil, spit, neetsfoot oil, or WWWFluid with a tich of oil added. All work equally well.  If anything, the mink oil from track loads the slickest, but it's difficult to beat spit for accuracy and ease of loading for target shooting.
