Screw Tip With Applied Collar
« on: February 10, 2011, 07:52:17 PM »
This one was inspired by the horn on the bottom of page 67 in Grant’s
Powder Horns and Their Architecture.
It is about 15” around the outside curve. The base is Walnut, it is hollowed out and held in place with four steel pins. It is about 2 1/4" at the horn. The tip and collar are horn, the collar itself is threaded ½-13, it is pinned to the horn with three steel pins. Over all the tip and collar measure about three 3”. AF and Brown shoe polish were used for the color.

Tim,
Really love the slender look of the horn.  The more I look at your stuff, the more I want to do some more screw tips!  Brown shoe polish...HMMMM--now that is something new to think about!  Great job as always!

Thanks again for the positive comments. I was looking for something else and if I am not mistaken the same horn in on page 128 of Grinslade's Powder Horns Documents of History.
Billy those were two fine horns of yours over on the Blog too, Va. and Ga. Great work.
