Sure, how about this one.  Oops I forgot we're a longrifle forum.
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Interesting article, though it doesn't necessarily take a Brit shotgun to turn a buck.
I think there's still room for improvement on decent long rifles and nice sports cars! ;)

JTR, I have no problem making the same adjustment in my thinking. . . . I'd rather put money in a commodity I enjoy and where I have some sense of supply and demand.

My impression is that it is only the very best of the  best and they have to be ejector guns at that to bring the high prices.  Holt's agents have been in my area a couple of times now; I didn't  bother going the second time.  The first time I went, the agents had to be asked to even bother looking at the guns that I brought.  One was a nicely engraved hammerless Greener that would go for around $1000 in this area.  One of my friends sent some guns to England with them and by the time he paid all of the expenses, figured that he had lost money.

cheers Doug

Just picked up a lot with and Atkinson "Warrented" take down percussion half stock fowler.
It's a pretty small barrel, most likely a .410 gauge muzzleloader.
With a little love it could be a nice little show piece, I believe the furniture is real silver.

Those British doubles bring me fond memories from when my collecting interest was British sporting muzzle loading sporting guns. When I liquidated my collection in 1999 I had four Westley Richards Doubles (3 cased). Also by Purdy , Joe Manton and Harkom etc.   I miss them but I know that they went to good homes.   Bob

It was not only the London and Birmingham gun makers that made quality sporting guns  most provincial gun makers turn out some nice work . I enclose an image of a stand of 10 gage Fowler's by Provincial makers

I think some of the best values in firearms today are well-made European "guild" guns from Birmingham, the Suhl area and St Etienne.  Where in the later decades a few large manufacturers pumped out barrels and actions for small alleyway shops and country gunmakers to buy, stock, fit and finish, many of them ultimately unsigned and unmarked except for the proofs.

They may not have the prestige of the more upscale towns and big names, but the quality is there.  And they still can be had often for under $500 and will probably appreciate dramatically by the time your descendants have them appraised.  If you are addicted to Parker and Philadelphia-Fox quality, these can easily meet or exceed those for a fraction of the price in a lighter, better-handling upland gun package to boot.

Catch the Pound at the right time and there are no shortage of provincial gun dealers where the good buys are, well versed in selling to Americans.

Or better still hunt locally for the occasional top value right here.  You can tell by the lever the high-detail little Suhl gun with side clips and cocking indicators below is probably still tight, the barrels aren't cut and the cracked stock is an easy fix.  It sold for $211.00 last week on Gunbroker.

Like I thought...a nice, tight, uncut, undented and unbuggered 6lb Suhl gun with perfect bores.  Turns out it's an August Schueler made in 1925.  And with a little steam, a little epoxy, some pigments to hide the repairs, a little London Oil and the checkering recut, will sell for $900-1000.  Or...as a light 16ga, I might save it for one of the grandkids. Like I said, they ain't making any more of these at these prices.

And the 1942 steel 10-pfennig piece used as a washer was free.  ;)

You did very well with that one Bob, I saw it was listed as a 12ga.
