As J.P. Beck's brother, Christian Beck Jr. (The Earlier) died in an explosion at his gunpowder factory in 1806 I don't think it is his rifle. The rifle looks to be older than 1806 in my opinion. I think it is the work of Christian Beck's (The Earlier) son, Christian Beck (The Later). The gun carriers his characteristics in the triggerguard, triggers, incised carving and signature. I would think it is from the time he just moved from Franklin County to Martinsburg, Va (now WV) in the early 1820's. I can't tell from the photos if it is converted from flint to percussion. It is a fine rifle and I would like to see more of his later work displayed.
