A Couple Of Horn Turkey Calls
« on: March 14, 2011, 05:56:33 PM »

The mouth piece on  the one with the bands screws in, it is about 6 ½” X 1 2/4”. On the other one the horn was heated and the mouth piece was pressed in, it is about 4 ½” X ¾”.

I like them. Compared to a wing bone call is the sound close to the same?.....B Staley

Now those are great. Do the turkeys know how cool those look? They'll be coming closer for a better look!

Those are nice Tim.  What did you use for the stem on the banded call?

That is a piece of bone, like they use on Indian breast plates. I picked up a couple pieces to try, I had my doubts that it was bone but after a burn test and sawing I find that it is infact bone. It threads well but you have to use a lube or it crushes.
I have made them out of antler and horn. This one is antler.

If you have heard a leg bone call they are used and sound the same way.

That banded call is killer.  Great job Tim.  Now the question is, who is going to figure out what we can band next?  Guys, put your thinking caps on.  Skillman, how about a banded pin cushion?

Consider it done. A banded pincushion.
