J. & S. Hawken with Fixin's
« on: April 07, 2011, 12:54:59 AM »
This big 58 caliber Hawken was purchased six years ago as a "kind of unfinished" project.  The patchbox and trigger guard were added by myself and were both purchased from Ebay from a non-collector.  I have thought they may be original St. Louis parts as the patchbox is heavy, thick,  of very high quality and was well oxidized when I received it.

After a little "right echelon" maintenance, it made into a pretty nice rifle.
The rest of the doin's in the picture are of my making. The rifle scabbard and pouch are made of American buffalo. The beadwork is compliments of our Chinese brothers.
I had thought it may be Sharron components.

That is a mighty fine lookin rifle. I love the stock :)
Nothing beats the feel of a handmade southern iron mounted flintlock on a cold frosty morning

These are not Sharon components...what is the barrel diameter?
Perhaps Hawken Shop components as I do believe they utilize 1 1/8" dia. barrels only in their parts sets.

I agree with you Ray...there are no Sharon components visible in the photograph.  It's a very good looking Hawken rifle in my own opinion.

Very nice! I would like to see more pix if possible. How long is that barrel? And how does it feel balance wise when shouldered?

Very nice! I especially like the engraving and the engraved bison is really something. What finish did you use?
