Suggest you take more wood off the comb line to correct that butt plate from 'diving' in to the comb. Easy to do and not too late. Just my thought on it.

Thanks for the input folks. The brass screws are my working ones. Finl set will be case hardened and blue. Yes there is still about a 32nd to skin off the comb. I want to shoot it soon to see if it bites. !!!.

I agree with Roger, Bob. You can cut away all the wood as I have shown in this image, and still round it off to achieve the nice Roman nose Berks Co. look. You engraving adds nicely to the design of the box.

Well it's been while but I finally got a bit of rustic carving done round the tang.

Been slow going and will tackle the cheek side carving next and a couple of inlays will be ready for some stain and thats a whole new ball game,. Been doing lots of testing and so far nothing winds my crank.

So I tackled the cheekside carving over the last couple of days. Tried to stay in the theme of some of the Berks style that I have some pics of and simplified it somewhat to closer match my skill level.

Well hello again. Been a while but things are starting to come together. I chose to cold rust blue the lock. Stock gave me fits with a couple if spots in the cheek side that didn't want to take the stain (red dye and vinegar) that I don't think I will be able to hide to well . Barrel is cold rust browned with LMF solution. nice dark brown finish
Bout a week from final assembly.

Well I did final assembly yesterday and here is the final product. It's been fun and a big THANK YOU to all the help and encouragement over the last four months. I wanted a dark stock and it seems about right. (red dye & 3 coats of vinegar iron)

Thanks Al; 1 red dye/ 3 vinegar iron / 1 linseed oil/ 5 123 mix / rubbed back with powderd pummice on a felt pad whetted with linseed oil
