Finished rifle

Just finished  this rifle.  As you can see it is a swivel breech with two sets of barrels.  One set has two 54 cal. rifled barrels, and the other set has one smooth 28 ga. and a 40 cal rifled.  The owner wanted the metal finished with an antique look.  I had the but stock only  of this rifle at the CLA show because the rest was not finished.  It is all ready to ship.

If you you had to approximate a time period to this piece,Where would it fall into?

Somehow "Wow" does not really seem adequate!  But it's all I can think of.  Four (4) barrels for one rifle!

 Beautiful rifle(s) David! I like the choice your customer made in barrels and calibres.Obviously a hunter. A 28 ga. and forty,too cool! I really like that combination. The fifty fours for the big stuff! Great gun!

Stunning rifle David. I love the cheekpiece inlay and wire work, so delicate and yet it stands out and even compliments that intense figure in the wood  :P

I don't know what a "rufke" is, but the swivel rifle is incredibulous! We are privileged to have an artist of the caliber of John Bivins in our midst!
It appears to be built for hunting alright, but even I would be reluctant to haul that beauty out in the rain & snow.

A "rifke" is what a rifle builder , that can't spell builds.  I see that someone was nice enough to correct the error for me though.

The barrels are .850 tapered to .750.
The finished rifle with either set of barrels weighs within a few ounces of eight  and a half lbs.   The forty cal. barrel is the heaviest because of the thicker wall thickness but that set is only 28 inches long.  The 54 cal. set is 32 inches long.

As usual David, I'm breathless . . . Great job. I like the 28 ga/.40 combo, too, and I'm partial to .54's. If that rifle showed up at my door, I'd think I had died and gone to heaven . . .

Dang!!! I hate it when you guys make me feel so inadequate (me, who can't even draw a straight line on a piece of paper). Seriously though, does anyone really shoot or even carry a piece of art like this outside? Let alone shoot it? David you have been heralded on this forum in the past, and some great things have been said, and shown, concerning your talents. This is simply the proof of it all. If anything you are too modest and unsung. Wow!!!

Special, David- very special.  I really like the idea of the 28bore/.40 set of barrels.  The two .54's would make a nice moose rifle as well.
