Pipe Hawk
« on: April 14, 2011, 07:08:09 PM »
Picked up this Goering casting at Dixons a few years ago to play with, finally got it together and complete.  Neat thing to work on between guns and thought I needed one to go with my gear.  May even plant some tobacco this summer to try it out!   ;D

Veryl nicely done piece.  Is that wire inlay on the handle?

Thanks for posting, it looks real good and gives me an idea for those off times when gun work gets put aside for awhile. Was the engraving simmiler to any original ?   Smylee

Reeves Goehring always has some nice reproductions of originals.  Nice job in the engraving and inlay.  Top notch.  I am posting one I have done that is also a Goehring cast.  Look for "Poll Tomahawk"

Again great work on this one.

Nice work, I got one from Reaves once and he told he he used to throw one just like it. When I started to work it I found out it was really hard, more like Bronze than Brass.

 Tim C,

Tim I had quite a conversation about the metal in his heads like this with Reaves 2 years ago at the eastern Rondy.  it looks like brass but if I remember correctly it is a mixture of bronze and steel.  I have a head that I am working on now that is the same type metal and it is very hard.  Had to go buy some good files to work it.  it holds a terrific edge as well.

I like what you've done. Very nice. Do you folks have contact info for Reaves Goehring?
