Longrifle on gunbroker

Item 225584059. Is it old? new? Why is the carving on the cheek piece side interupted by the butt plate?

Just my .02 but I think it is a contemporary piece and the maker just didn't execute the carving quite right...Ed

This is surely a buyer beware piece especially with photos being of such poor quality.  Now that said, some makers did run carving into the top extension of the butt plate but it would be unusual to have that much relief that close to the butt plate without having some damage on it.  To me, none of the screws look old and the ends of the screws showing on the lock plate should be as dark as the lock or at least close to it.  If this is a contemporary piece, and I wouldn't say for sure that it is, I don't think the builder was trying to deceive anyone (those screw ends would be dark), just trying to make the gun look old.  Taking the lock out would tell you instantly if this was the case.  My two cents worth.

Dan is correct -  the lock is a Cochran if I am not mistaken.  The gun looks like something from the 70's and quite crude workmanship.  It definitely is not an  antique!     Hugh Toenjes
