Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

COOL!!

Let's see, I'm 65 years old, I build about 2 or 3 rifles a year, so when I reach #300 I'll be, ah, darn, not enough fingers!

The problem with the Faber rifle, for me, has always been the ugly cheek piece. But you fixed it! I think it's the slanting top line that did it. Hmm. Maybe next year.....

Congratulations Mike!

I've heard others say how they don't care for the Faber cheek piece as well, but I don't think there is a thing wrong with it.  In fact I see it as one of the big appealing aspects of the gun.  When viewed with similar Germainic pieces it really comes into perspective.  Sometimes I think it's easier for us to accept what we are accustomed to or what is viewed as typical or normal.  I guess everybody has personal tastes as well though.

Nice rifle Mike.

I agree with Jim - the unique quirks on some of these early southern rifles where they were adapted a remembered German influence are what give many of these guns such appeal.  The brass barreled rifle and the Klette rifle also come to mind in this regard.

I let the front of the cheek piece stand out from the stock more than I normally would too , to give it a little more euro feel. Low slung cheek pieces like that give lots of folks problems with archetecture, you gots to be real careful.
I'd like to have kept this one. I haven't built anything like it in a long while. In fact I kept it a few extra days so I could enjoy it before it headed off to it's new home. ;D

Congrats on your milestone! It is outrageous! I'm thinking you ought to build more RIFLES!
Shoot, at this pace I'll be lucky to reach 100...but I'm halfway there!

I like the rifle a lot Mike.  And I know what you mean about not wanting to let her go...sometimes after finishing a rifle, I don't call the client for two weeks.  Can't handle the post-partem blues.

I like the way the barrel channel has been reduced to expose the barrel.  Should have kept #300!!

Mike,

Congratulations on the milestone and another fine looking piece.  I love walnut stocked guns so I'd be naturally drawn to this one.  I always enjoy the way your work captures what to me is the essence of an 18th Century firearm.  They look the part, carving, engraving, overall architecture, and this is another fine example.  Someones going to very pleased...

Nice gun!
I really like the large rear sling swivel.

Just remember, the joy is that you can build another just like it.

Congratulations!!   That's an achievement to be proud of.  I suspect most of us would be happy to reach 30 guns much less 300!  My hats off to you.

@!*% nice! 300 huh? Bet you never thought you would have reached that back when you started. Some won't even keep a count. I have always liked the Faber rifles and I think that is the only one I've seen in steel. I prefere steel mounts anyway. Even though many say that they aren't correct on certain pieces. Congrats

Thanks for the kind word guys. There are others out there that have made 2X to 3X as many as I have. I hope to get to 400 and quit. ;D

Mike.......yeah Mike, but I remember some of your early stuff........they don't count.    I remember some of those "black"
jagers you used to make, but they did go well with that big hat of yours with the turned up brim and peacock feather.
Congratulations on a big milestone, that's a lot of guns.  How are the chickens doin'............Don

I'm inspired. I'm on #3. I'd be happy if mine look half that good when I get to 300!  Love the look. I don't blame you , I would have had a hard time parting with that one. I"m a fan of that Faber gun  and I fell in love with that old Brass barreled gun when I saw it in person. Ed Rayle said he had the dimensions all recorded on the barrel so whenever I was ready he could make it in brass or steel. I couldn't get over how thick the stock was at the cheekpiece on that old gun but yet it looked right,  I think.

Well, when you consider I've been at this for 30 years now that gives me an anverage of only 10 guns a year.....that's loafer speed for me! ;D

VERY nice Mike. Though for the life of me I don't think I would use it, I especially like the addition of the sling swivel. A very interesting choice of shape.
