How many screws are necessary to hold a rib on? 3 sound right?? How deep do the holes have to be? 3 threads gives max holding power right?
Full stocks are less confusing.  ???

Bruce,  Max holding power on a thread is on diameter.  If you have a 1/4" diameter bolt once 1/4" length of the threads have been engaged you have met max thread strength.  I would think you would want 4 screws to hold a rib down.

Only originals I've seen were soldered, so that'd be my way to go.

It's going to be a copy of a Vincent and they were screwed (underrib that is). Thanks dave.

They were also "staked" meaning instead of the screws they had a nice soft piece of iron or brass staked into the barrel then peened into countersunk holes in the rib.

I'm also building a Vincent and wasn't sure how to attach the rib. Decided to screw it on as the heat might cause the match barrel that I'm using to bend  slightly from uneven heating and then be "frozen" in that position when the solder cools. Since it's a .40 cal 7/8" barrel there's lots of "meat" for the screws.
