Levi Shreckengost's Canteen
« on: May 03, 2011, 03:49:31 PM »
I received an email from the G Grandson of Levi Shreckengost.  This canteen was carried by Levi, son of Wm, during the civil war and stayed with him
through his imprisonment at Andersonville and returned home with him.
It's been passed through Levi's son to his daughter and now to her
son.  Can anyone tell me about this canteen's mfg?
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Look closely at the neck there may be a mfg stamp on it, US issue. Farily common bullseye canteen, the neck is pewter, had a cloth cover at one time. Used to dig quite a few, should say pieces, of them around Petersburg years ago.
