Great artwork and great box with eagle on the lid. The carving appears to be three bell flowers (similar to White's thumb inlay) worked into a unique pattern. This gun shows a wider range in White's artistic work than I was previously aware of. Really neat to see, and thanks for posting. Shelby Gallien

Examples of White's other work are in Jim Whiskers book "Gunsmiths of Western PA Volume 1".  His are some of the more artful rifles I've seen.

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

It's still on Condon's web page John, so I guess it's available.  He's had it for a couple of months now and I saw it at Baltimore, it can be yours for $35,000.00!

Another example of White's work is pictured in Arms Makers of Western
Pennsylvania by James Biser Whisker p. 169 and pages 147-163.
The book has a fantastic
collection of images and info on the gunsmiths of Western PA rifles.

Not me John,

For the last couple of years, I've been squandering my money on groceries and mortgages.

I have spoken with this gentleman in regards to this rifle, he is asking $35000.00. It is a bedford boys rifle made by P. White. The pull is only 11 inches, its missing a fair amount of wood around the lock plate, and doesn't have the original lock, let alone a lock made in Bedford. Its beautiful but not worth what the gentleman is asking.

If I bought it, probably the first time it will have been loaded and fired in a hundred years or so is when my wife would shoot me with it!

The barrel has been bobbed several inches and the forestock was cut and slid back when the barrel was shortened.  A bunch of money for a fix me upper!   ;D
