Horn Cup
« on: May 13, 2011, 01:48:51 AM »
This cup is 2 3/4" tall with a 6 3/4" circumference at the top, tapering to 5 3/4" at the bottom.  Lathed turned body and bottom with the bottom press fit and pinned as I have not gotten my chime tool made yet.  No glue and held water for 24 hours with no leaks then I figured why not...and put rum in for 24 hours with no leaks at the bottom or at the top when emptied.

the scrim is my own idea but trying new inks.  I used transparent brown umber for the wood and Red Iron oxide for the flowers.  not finished with the scrim but mulling over some ideas before finishing it up.

Enjoy

diameter, circumference...always confused me.  it measures 6 3/4" around the outside of the top.

That would be circumference.  Thought maybe you got ahold of a prehistoric sized cow horn !!
Very nicely done. Awesome work.  :)

Ya kow..I would not mind trying out one of those prehistoric sized horns.  check out the size of the ones on these Ankole cattle.  Might have to rework my bench a bit but hey it would be fun. ;D

NICE cup. Makes me wana drink. The horns on these cows you could make a flattened one gallon canteen or a gallon plus sized horn barrel

The more common recognized name for the cattle are Watusi.  Originally from Africa.  There is quite the breeding pandemonium gong on with them as well.  Try to find a horn though.  I searched the WWW for days with no luck.
